Upstart

Upstart is a non-profit arts collective which puts creativity at the centre of public consciousness by reinterpreting the use of public spaces in Dublin City.Upstart's project in 2013 is to bring together a diverse range of community, voluntary and professional sector bodies, to showcase the best in Irish design talent by temporarily converting one of the city’s vacant spaces into a thriving visitor playground.Design plans for the Upstart park include a giant theatre space built from reclaimed wooden pallets by cross-border youth groups, an urban orchard and garden project, an outdoor cinema space, an edge school, a pop-up restaurant with an alternative food economy, art installations and interactions, and a programme of performance arts. The aim of the project is to raise the aesthetic profile of the city and provide a template for activating disused spaces through collaboration and creativity.● General Election poster campaign was Ireland’s largest ever public art initiative● Featured on BBC’s Newsnight, RTE’s Six One News, TV3, Morning Show, The Sunday Times, Irish Times, le cool, Phantom FM, RTE Radio’s Morning Ireland, 98FM● Documentary commissioned by Irish Film Board● Upstart received over 1,000 submissions from more than 600 visual artists, writers photographers, painters and graphic designers throughout Ireland and internationally● 1,000 election size posters were erected throughout Dublin city on lampposts alongside the general election posters
